Names Worn by Bibi Andersson

Bibi Andersson in "Wild Strawberries"

Bibi Andersson was born Berit Elisabeth Andersson in Kungsholm, Stockholm, to Karin, a social worker, and Josef, a businessman. Her elder sister, Gerd, was a ballerina who eventually became an actress, while Bibi did bit parts and commercials to further her career. It was in a commercial for detergent that she first worked with Ingmar Bergman, who would go on to become one of the most famous directors of Sweden, and who would give her much of her work.

She started attending the Royal Dramatic Theatre's acting school, but quit to follow Ingmar, who she had started a relationship with. Her role as Alma in "Persona" (which she won an award for), furthered her career greatly, and she started getting work outside of Sweden, like in the Western "Duel at Diablo", opposite James Garner and Sidney Poitier.

The 90's saw her working as a theatre director, and a supervisor for Road to Sarajevo. Unfortunately, it was reported in 2010 that she had suffered from a stroke, and that it had left her hospitalized. Bibi has been married three times, her first marriage producing a daughter named Jenny Matilde Grede. She has been married to Gabriel Mora Baeza since 2008.

Eivor - "Rabies" - This name comes from the Old Norse auja, "gift, good fortune", and vor, "vigilant, cautious" and is pronounced "AY-vorr."

Alma - "Persona" - I love this name. It could come from the Latin almus, which means "nourishing", or simply alma, the Spanish word for "soul". It's still pretty unusual, and has the perfect sort of vintage glamour which I think will help propel it into the limelight sometime soon.

Siv - "Jag rodnar" - Siv, pronounced "SEEV", is an Old Norse name meaning "bride". Another form, Sif, has recently been seen in "Thor" on the character played by Jaimie Alexander. Sif was a Norse Goddess and is Thor's wife and is associated with the earth, fertility, family, and marriages.

Arkadina - "Måsen" - I think this name is gorgeous and really romantic. Arkadina is most likely a feminine form of the Russian Arkadiy. Uma Thurman's daughter is Rosalind Arusha Arkadina Altalune Florence.

Tekla - "Fordringsägare" - This is the Hungarian and Georgian form of the Greek name Thekla, which came from Theokleia, which means "glory of God". Saint Thekla was supposedly the very first female martyr.

Solveig - "Shit Happens" - This lovely Scandinavian name means "sun strength" and is pronounced "SOL-vay" in Swedish and "SOL-vi" in Norwegian.
